Season of Winter - Be Grateful

Our lives, being a part of nature, make seasonal shifts - from Spring where new growths/ideas emerge for our tending; to Summer where we bask in the warmth of busy-ness and achievements; to Autumn where we sunset our old habits/ways; to Winter where we rest, reflect and be grateful.

One should not stay in stagnant in a season for too long as it would stagnate growth and/or result in burnouts. As leaders in organisations, we should actively seek out these seasonal shifts for our personal growth and care. We are also responsible for shifting the pace of our teams and work to experience such seasonal shifts.

Every now and then, usually during the end of the year, we enter into the season of winter - a season for respite, gratitude and renewal. This year, my season of winter came early in May as I take a much needed respite from 16 years in Civil Service before I start a new chapter in my career.

As I reflect on my season of winter, this short clip on gratitude resonates with me a lot.

"In whatever we do, we have to accept some involuntary inconveniences for a higher purpose." - Gaur Gopal Das

The more our attention is on our goal, on our purpose, on where we want to reach, on the process to reach there, we do not get easily distracted by the lack of facilities and the inconveniences caused thereby.

And it is gratitude that gives us the strength and energy to bring the best versions of ourselves to achieve our goals, while complaining eats away our souls and depletes us into nothingness.

Hope we all see things from the eyes of gratitude daily.

- Andre
